What kitchen or food-preparation tools have helped you to eat healthier at home?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin

I asked this question a minute ago, I think in the wrong forum since I didn’t get any good answers. I’ve found a couple tools that just make a big difference for me if I eat something healthy at home or else eat out or eat something unhealthy at home. Their ease of use and cleaning have made them top tools in my ability to eat healthier.

Are there any ones that are just great for you to eat healthy, fresh foods at home?
Answering my own question, here’s what I like (despite what people said in the last question, this is not an ad!):

For me, I love this chopper thing. http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-GOC-300-International-Onion-Chopper/dp/B000A389IM/ref=pd_bbs_7/104-5667176-8248749?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1189802270&sr=8-7 The reviews on Amazon say that a lot of people’s broke, but I’ve been using mine regularly for maybe 6 months now. I love it! It’s so easy to chop on tomatoes and onions where otherwise it was just too much work and easier to eat less healthy things. It’s easy to clean and no crying for onions!

Also, I just got this awesome panini-maker. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00008ZCKO/ref=s9_asin_title_1/104-5667176-8248749?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1W3AY94VWAC989XSNSMF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=278240701&pf_rd_i=507846 I’ve never liked cold sandwiches too much, but this panini maker makes it easy to have delicious, melty-cheese, healthy sandwiches. It’s very easy to clean.

Home Depot/Husky tools Warranty Issues (long)?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin

Ok, I am getting a run around worse than the pope in an abortion clinic!!! So, here goes, I have a 1/2 inch Husky Air Impact Wrench that I purchased about 5 years ago from the Home Depot, It cost me about $200, it is a professional tool with a LIFETIME warranty. It broke down on me so I took it in to the Home Depot where I purchased it, after an hour of a wild goose chase and employees passing the buck, I finally ended up leaving it with the tool rental department, where their tool technician would look at it over the weekend, He called me on monday and told me that is was indeed worn out, but has lifetime warranty so, to come in and they would give me a store credit for the $200 seeing as it is a discontinued product. I went in to get my credit today and was sent on another wild goose chase, explaining my story about 5 times to unprofessional employees who would not listen to my whole story, (I stayed calm and was polite.) Finally the manager came to me and explained that being I purchased the tool over 4 years ago, it would no longer be in their records, so he directed me (passed the buck) to the Authorized Husky Tool dealer in my city who he assured me would take care of my problem, and if they didnt he would take care of me. I went there, they said they didnt deal with this Husky line, they deal with the Campbell Hausfield line, the one I have is Florida Pneumatic Husky, and that I should go back to the Home Depot…which I did, the manager said, I am sorry sir, this is out of my hand I cannot go any further. I simply politely nearly clenching my teeth, said okay, I’ll talk to you soon and went home. Now in the Manual it states that the home depot will cover the warranty, but, they wont. so, any suggestions?
PS, I did call the phone number in the manual, and on the box, the phone number no longer exists. (Which is why I went back to the home depot.) And yes, I did get my tool back from the tools counter, along with the receipt and manual etc, I suppose now I will try to contact customer service?

Call the regional manager. This is why I do not shop at Home DePOT.

What tools would be best for hand carving a wood chess set?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin

I’ve been interested in hand carving my own wood chess set and board but have no wood carving experience. A chess set has 64 pieces and I think that could be very hard on the hands without the right tools for small wood carving, so I’d like to know what kind of tools would be best for that. Also I would be appreciative of any advice on the type of wood to use and/or tips on staining/glossing.

Thanks in advance for your responses, Yahoo! Answers community.

the smaller tools. they make them in all sizes. and hand carving is hard on the hands always. a good sturdy wood like oak or something like that is good for something you want to last.

Do you know something about air compressors?

Posted on February 26th, 2010 by admin

First, what is the advantage of air-powered tools over electric powered tools? I have used air tools before…just wondering about any specific advantages.

Second, do most (or all) air compressors allow the operator to regulate output pressure?

Let’s say the compressor advertises a maximum of 150 psi, but I don’t want more than 90 psi.

Thanks in advance.

Typically air powered tools are more powerful than their electric counterparts, and cheaper. Air is also much better for "impact" driven applications such as an air impact wrench, air hammer, air chisel, etc, its hard to make a hard reciprocating motion with an electric drive and have it last. Air tools also last virtually forever if they’re kept oiled, and can be rebuilt easily, ussually its just seals to be replaced etc. Most air compressors do not have a regulator built in, but you typically get an air/water seperator and regulator to attach directly to the outlet of the compressor and then run your hose from there. Water in your air tools is REAL bad so you definately want the water seperator, and the regulator you just turn a knob and it keeps the pressure after it at whatever setting you want while the compressor stays at whatever pressure its designed for, this also allows you to have more air volume in the tank as the air is more compressed.

Does anybody know where to find Handy Andy tools from the 50’s or 60’s?

Posted on February 26th, 2010 by admin

I can find the tool boxes on EBay but not the tools ie wrenches and such. You can find the woodworking tools but not the mechanical tools. Are they that rare?

Craiglist
I am not sure if this is what you are searching for or not but here is a site with the tools and box, and a phone number!

Which is the best online brokerage for my needs?

Posted on February 26th, 2010 by admin

-I am a non-US citizen or resident
-Opening Balance will be $1000
-Balance may increase to $5000 in short term
-Executing 1 or 2 trades a month, it will be a buy and hold account
-I am a beginner but do not require research tools, but would be a bonus
-Looking for the best discount broker with a solid track record

Thanking you in advance

Are you legal resident? open account,, you must be citizen of legal resident. if you are. then i would recommand sogotrade. I think Sogotrade is best among all online brokerages. You can get a lot of free trades: about 100 free trades with 500 minimum deposits. It has very good customer services, it also has live help, and you can chat with representatives about any question. After that, only 3 dollar for each trade, pretty sweet when compared with other online brokerages.
