Posted on March 2nd, 2010 by admin

i am starting an intro to auto class this semester and i need to buy some tools for the class

first i don’t know the what sae or metric is but the class requires metric.

i need a 3/8 inch drive ratchet
3/8 inch drive DEEP socket set (8mm-19mm) 6 point is best
Several extensions that will give you 12 inches of total extension

1/4 inch drive ratchet 1/4 inch drive SHALLOW socket set (6mm-19mm)6 point is best
1/4 inch drive DEEP socket set (6mm-12mm)
Several extensions that will give you 12 inches of total extension

Spark plug socket

Metric Combination Wrenches 8mm – 19mm

Would This set cover what I need

i bought a craftsman 200 piece mechanic set for about 200 dollars and came with a box , i like it , make a investment in a good set , but the best tools are snap on but there pricey unless u got alot of money go for it , i would suggest to start with a crafsman set first , the set u looking at is good

any tool that has mm on it is metric. 99 percent of the cars today takes metric tools. that set would be good for starting out.after awhile you might want to get a torque wrench and a breaker bar too.

Metric is sizes in MM, whee SAE is sizes in frictions of an inch.

Looks as if you need all metric tools and no SAEs

Thats a good kit you linked to but it don’t cover all the sizes you need and it gives you other tools not on your list.

If you buy that kit you would still need to buy a few sockets and wrenchs

It would be best for you just to by 3 socket sets in the sizes you need, a wrench set, some extensions and ratchets, then a small tool box to put them in
