Christians: I always felt the 300+ prophecies fulfilled by Jesus was amazing , why is this not discussed?

Posted on March 2nd, 2010 by admin

I rarely hear Christian apologetics use this as a tool to discuss with unbelievers, is there a flaw in the prophecies? or is it because non believers just discount the Bible ?

Well, some are definitely discussed.

Probably 300+ are too many to recall off hand!

People who are not inclined to believe will not believe no matter what. There’s little that can be done about that.

We don’t even know if Jesus really existed, so the prophesies could be fulfilled by a man with a pen and paper.

I always found the 3000 prophecies predicted by Nostradamus even more amazing.

I wonder why non-believers just discount his quatrains, what could be the reason.

I think your second suggestion is closer to the truth. Another argument is the desire not to use later concepts to explain earlier ones, since each concept is formed in its own Zeitgeist. However, with prophecies this presents a bit of a problem, since the prophecies were constructed within their own cultural milieu, but talk about events which are to take place, sometime in the future, outside of it. One way to overcome this is to ask whether the revealing of the prophecies is what was considered the likely outcome at the time of writing. Often with Christian prophecies this isn’t the case, but this is to be expected, since the New Testament represents a different "covenant" between man and God than the Old Testament.

Perhaps this explains to some extent the reason some Christians avoid using Biblical prophecies as evidence.

It seems unlikely that 300+ prophecies could outweigh the millions of coincidences that would have to occur to oppose the existence of God.

Nobody has asked these questions. The non-believers tend to ask the same old things over and over again proving they never learn. As for the prophecies given by Jesus, they are hard to understand and different denominations interpret them differently because he spoke in parables so that only the ones with great spiritual discernment and wisdom would be able to understand.

I’m not saying they are not important to study—they are, but we need to be sure to rightly divide the word of truth. too many people in here are scoffing at Jesus, so why throw pearls before swine? What do you want to ask?

its very easy, when writing fiction, to make your stories fulfill anything.

And if you look closely, the jesus tales contradict each other hugely.

Which means they are nothing but more fairy tales

Shame you choose to live your life in willful ignorance

ALL THE SUPPOSED "FULFILLED PROPHECIES" by Jesus DO NOT prove that HE was The Messiah or that there ever WAS a "Messiah."

    DEUTERONOMY 18:17-22.

    17. And the LORD said unto me,
"They have well spoken that which they have spoken.
    18. "I will raise them up a Prophet from among their Brethren,
    like unto thee, and will put My Words in his mouth;
and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
    19. "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken
unto My Words which he shall speak in My Name,
I will require it of him.
    20. "But the prophet, which shall presume
to speak a word in My Name,
which I have not commanded him to speak,
or that shall speak in the name of other gods,
    even that prophet shall die.
    21. "And if thou say in thine heart,
‘How shall we know the word
which the LORD hath not spoken?’
    22. "When a prophet speaketh in The Name of The LORD,
if the thing follow not, nor come to pass,
that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken,
but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously:
thou shalt not be afraid of him.’ "

MOSES PRESUMPTUOUSLY created the Carrot & Stick Bait & Snatch gimmick of "That Prophet," that depended upon no other Human getting as close to God as HE did. It took 1,300 years for someone to step up and TRY to be THE MESSIAH. This was 400 years past the last prophet who was "prophesying" that "The Messiah is coming."

For 1,300 years, this Messiah Thing "followed not, nor came to pass."
The millions who had died waiting for the Messiah were thus all FOOLS. THEY could have been The Messiah, if that had obeyed ONE Commandment:

    DEUTERONOMY 6:4-9.

    4. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
    5. And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine Heart,
and with all thy Soul, and with all thy Might.
    6. And these words, which I command thee this Day,
    shall be in thine heart:
    7. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy Children,
and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house,
And when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down,
    and when thou risest up.
    8. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand,
and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
    9. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house,
    and on thy gates.

THE "OFFICE" of "Prophet" can be entered by ANYONE who cares enough about mGod to TRY to *see* Him. Even a person who fails to reach GOD Himself can become EXTREMELY powerful. Jesus was very careful to HIDE this Truth from his own Disciples, until his crazy plan to Win the War against Satan by killing HIMSELF, instead of The Enemy- never send a carpenter to fight a war for you- was a WEEK away from fulfillment.

    MARK 11:20-26.

    20. And in the morning, as they passed by,
they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
    21. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him,
"Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst
    is withered away."
    22. And Jesus answering saith unto them,
    "Have Faith in God.
    23. "For verily I say unto you,
‘That whosoever shall say unto this mountain,
"Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the Sea;"
and shall not doubt in his heart,
but shall believe that those things
    which HE saith SHALL come to pass;
he SHALL have WHATSOEVER he saith.
    24. "Therefore I say unto you,
    "What things soever ye desire,
when ye pray, BELIEVE that ye receive THEM,
    and ye shall have THEM.’
    25. "And when ye stand praying,
forgive, if ye have ought against any:
that your Father also Which is in Heaven
    may forgive you YOUR trespasses.
    26. "But if ye do not forgive,
neither will your Father Which is in Heaven
    forgive YOUR trespasses."

JESUS’ DISCIPLES DID NOT realize the implications of Jesus’ Teachings until they saw him let himself be arrested. The BREADCRUMB TRAIL of "Fulfilled Prophecies" Jesus was following were probably THINGS HE HAD PRAYED TO HAPPEN TO and AROUND HIM. Such as JUDAS’ Betrayal and subsequent DAMNATION. Meaning that jesus just might sacrifice ANY OF THEM for something that NEVER made sense.
