Turn Circuit Breakers ON and OFF by REMOTE!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Hi Guys. : ) Hope …
Hi Guys. : ) Hope all is well with you all
Regarding ‘the device shouldn’t obstruct the natural trip movement of the breaker. ‘ ~ Keep in mind guys the trip mechanism on a circuit breaker is internal and so there is no obstruction say as if someone was to try and ‘press and keep the circuit breaker on while it was to trip would not interfere with C.B’s internal trip mechanism. The breaker still trips internally disengaging from the switch.
Thanks for the comments everyone. Take Care. : )

The problem with …
The problem with that is that not just electricians have access to the electrical panels. While an electrician (most) know not to turn on a breaker that is taped there are some who would turn it on all the same.
I agree with Adam28x that the device shouldn’t obstruct the natural trip movement of the breaker.

all thats needed to …
all thats needed to preventing someone from turning it on while your working is a piece of tape over the circuit breaker. any electrician that opens a panel and sees a piece of tape wont touch it

Harry,
The concept …
Harry,
The concept is great and appreciate your thinking. It needs to be smaller, I think you mentioned you are working on that. Also cost less than 100.00, more if you can remotely select different breakers. Te biigest issue I could see would be that it obstructs the breaker from tripping as designed. Example, you can,t tape or obstruct breakers. So if you have not already look at some sort of device that once it resets/turns on the breaker, it releases it or allows it to trip as designed.

I know of remote …
I know of remote devices that enable you to switch LV/HV breakers to save you incase of explosion but not seen this version, very convieniant. you`d usually need someone else and a couple of radios if your far from the board.
Dragons den.

I get the idea and …
I get the idea and i like it but there is still plenty of work to do first the motor for switching off and on needs to go it is too slow it needs to be an instant switch control like central locks on a car and it also needs to move up and down remotely and lastly the clamping needs to be a lot quicker no allen key stuff maybe a butterfly wing kind of screw clamps like on some drum set, i think your idea is good but needs the improvements as i listed good luck.

Hi ntmargetis.. …
Hi ntmargetis.. This is a slow process.. one thing at a time.. The time for that will come as well. Step by step. Thanks for the comment. Take Care.

if it doesnt move …
if it doesnt move vertically up and down by remote then whats the point . A circuit tracer works just as well.

This thing saves like 10 seconds, and your fingers are free…Kudos on the hardwork, but me being an unbiased party, I would not buy it. Keep trying and good luck.

Nightro.. It’s not …
Nightro.. It’s not done.. But I have come up with a a compact version which should do the trick! I’ve been talking with friends and have come up with the parts and all.. It’s there, in my head and now on paper… so eventually I hope to have a video on that.. it will take time though.. :- )

I love inventions …
I love inventions and creative idea, this is the first one that doesn’t make sense to me. lol
What I do is: I open the cover and disconnect the wires then put the cover back on. Use a multimeter to check the circuits. This prevents some idiot from turning the power on while I’m working. Not sure how you deal with that, 110 Volts is probably less impressive as 240 or 380.
I guess it does make it less interesting to play with the switches like this.
Stick a warning sign on it.

I am an electrician …
I am an electrician & this idea has came to me a number of times when the extra person would come in handy just for turning on & off of a circuit. As you said there isn’t anything on the market as of yet to fill in this void. Good luck on your venture, I look forward to being one of your customers in the near future if you get this to the market (just see if you can come up with a more compact version).

Well, this is …
Well, this is definitely something you should get patented and try and sell in stores such as Home Depot or Lowes… Good luck young man!
