But adapters are a little thick to fit in a drill chuck, so a bolt is actually a much better idea. And cheaper than wasting an adapter.

You can improvise …
You can improvise chuck key by using a round rod (grind down a bolt) that fits into the hole of the chuck then use a flat screwdriver, leveraged against the rod to pull the teeth of the chuck.

I think a 13/16″ square drive socket fits them, but watch out, don’t use a hammer drill or impact wrench, they destroy the ratchets.
