Will this Pneumatic impact wrench work with my compressor?

Posted on March 8th, 2010 by admin

Got this Pneumatic impact wrench for x-mas tried it out for the first time today. Didn’t work like i thought it would. I have a 15 gallon compressor with 90 psi regulated pressure and 200 psi tank but the tool uses 6.5 SCFM. My compressor is rated at 5.4 SCFM. I’m running it through 50` of 3/8 i.d. hose and not much power to the tool. If I shorten the hose to say 12` and increase the diameter to 1/2” or 5/8” would i get the torque i need to remove a wheel nut?

Changing the hose would give you more volume, but not any more power. You need a compressor that put up 110 to 120 PSI. 15 gallons would work but you will run out of air shortly. Pressure is what makes these tools work and a large volume of air to call on.
