I agree, this is a good example of why what might seem like an obvious tool, or task still requires some practice a head of time so you are not ‘learning’ durring a real emergency

You’re randomly …
You’re randomly throwing sparks around because of your technique. Hold the knife or striker steady and strike the flint against it. That way the sparks are produced in the same place and are easily controlled and aimed.

Ok, peaople keep saying that when a bic gets wet it won’t liightl. Simply not true! I can put a bic in a cup of water overnight (pobably much longer) take it out and carefully dry the striker wheel whith my t shrt and light it right up with no problem! I always carry three methods for lighting a fire!! And yes, one is a bic.

Also, when using a bare flint rod, don’t use the blade of your knife. it will dull the blade and thats not good. Use the back of the knife. It works just as well!
